Telefunken Neumann U-47 VF-14 Microphone
This is truly a rare occasion. It’s hard enough to find someone willing to sell a Telefunken badge u-47 in excellent condition… But a collectible like this is getting impossible to find. The capsule on this one is a virgin. The screw at the bottom of the assembly is still covered by black plastic. According to Bill Bradley, that means that it was never even removed from the housing since its birth in Germany. The plastic has been partially scratched but still covers the screw head, proving that the screw was never turned.
The story that goes with this mic is that it was found in the back of a closet in a live venue in Vegas that was being demolished. Supposedly it was forgotten there for over forty years. It was found without the original power supply but it did come in (what we believe is) the original box. It was found about 4 years ago and has seen occasional use. Functionally it is unbelievable. Super clean sound. The original vf14 tube is, of course, still in great shape.
Cosmetically it is consistent or better than its age. There are a couple of minor blemishes the most visible being the dent at the bottom of the body (see pics).
The new power supply is a Peak Power made by Bill Bradley of the Mic Shop. He also created a new tuchel cable for it using mogami cable. The cable has been secured to the tuchel connector with some clay by the owner(see pics). Included is the Telefunken VF14 U-47, the cable, the original box and the Peak Power Supply.
